[ARCHIVED] Eluding Suspect Arrested on Interstate 90

Coeur d’Alene, ID -  The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office arrested a male subject following a pursuit on I-90 after an arrest warrant was issued at court for failing to appear on a felony stalking charge.

Kootenai County Sheriff’s Deputies were at court today waiting for a hearing with Jacob S. Frey a 37 year old male from Newport, Washington. Frey failed to appear for court and a Judge issued a Bench Warrant for his arrest.

While at the court house, Frey’s vehicle was located in the parking lot and it was reported he was upset by patrons. As Deputies approached the vehicle the vehicle began to pull away and Deputies attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to yield and traveled northbound on Northwest Blvd. Deputies attempted a PIT maneuver but Frey was able to get out of the maneuver and rammed a patrol vehicle and continued northbound on Northwest Blvd. The vehicle then turned onto I-90 and started driving west towards Washington. At around I-90 at Hwy 41, the vehicle crossed the median and started traveling westbound in the eastbound lane. The vehicle was finally able to be stopped at Greensferry and I-90.

Deputies immediately began giving commands for Frey to exit the vehicle. Frey refused commands to exit the vehicle. Using K-9 Pogo, Deputies were able to get Frey out of the vehicle and into custody. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded AR-15 style rifle that was next to Frey. Frey was transported to Kootenai Health for treatment of his dog bite and then transported to the Public Safety Building. He was booked for his Bench Warrant, Felony Eluding, Aggravated Battery on a Police Officer and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer. The North Idaho Violent Crimes Task Force will also be seeking federal weapons charges.

Three Kootenai County vehicles were damaged in the pursuit and there was one report of a civilian vehicle damaged on Northwest Blvd. There were no injuries to any Deputies or civilians. Traffic on I-90 was backed up for several miles in each direction while emergency personnel were working the accident scene.
