[ARCHIVED] Kootenai County Dive Rescue Team Receives Donation

Coeur d’Alene, ID -  On 08-19-19, the Kootenai County Dive Rescue Team received a donation from the sister of Gary Scott “Scotty” Shawver in commemoration of his drowning on August 2nd 2014.

Gary Shawver jumped off a boat to retrieve a hat, but unfortunately he was not able to make it back to the boat and drowned the in the area of Stevens Point. The KCSO Dive Rescue Team spent 6 days searching the lake bottom using divers and the Sonar Team and were able to retrieve Scotty at around 8:30 pm with some help from a local diver.

The family stated they appreciated what the Dive Rescue Team did and that they were out there every day until Scotty was found. To show their appreciation, they provided the Dive Rescue Team with a donation. They requested this donation be used for the team to purchase any equipment that may be needed.

The Kootenai County Dive Rescue Team is made up of sworn Deputies and one volunteer from Hauser Lake Fire and Rescue. The Dive Team does not have an operating budget and utilizes funds that may be available from the County Vessel Account.

If you have any questions about the Dive Rescue Team or Water Safety please contact the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Recreation Safety Section at 208-446-1362.
