Coeur d’Alene, ID - With summer arriving to the area, more and more people are heading out to the local recreational areas to enjoy the outdoors. This leaves vehicles unattended in parking lots, some of which are rural. These unattended vehicles also bring out vehicle prowlers and the potential for vehicle burglaries. Here are some tips that may help you from becoming a victim of an auto burglary.
- Make sure your vehicle is locked when you leave it unattended.
- Place all bags into the trunk or in a place that is not visible from outside the vehicle.
- Remove all electrics and indicators of electronics (such as power cords, headphones, etc.)
- Don’t leave any valuables visible from outside the vehicle to include sunglasses, cash, wallets, etc.
If you do some of these simple things it might reduce the chance of you becoming a victim to an auto burglary.
If you have any questions about ways to protect yourself from being a victim of theft, please contact the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office at 208-446-1300.
