[ARCHIVED] KCSO Investigates Fatality in the Spokane River

Post Falls, ID: - The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatality involving a vehicle that occurred along the beach area of S. Idaho St. and E. Anchor Way near Post Falls, ID. The driver, and only occupant of the vehicle, is a 54 year old female from the North Idaho area.

A few minutes before 8:00 a.m., the Kootenai County 911 Center received a 911 call from a citizen reporting a vehicle had just driven into the Spokane River and that it was sinking. The KCSO Dive Rescue Team was dispatched along with emergency personnel from the Post Falls Police Department and Kootenai County Fire Rescue.

Once on scene, KCSO Divers found the vehicle completely submerged with the driver still inside. She was immediately pulled out of the vehicle but was unresponsive as Kootenai County Fire Rescue medical personnel began life saving measures. KCFR transported the female to Kootenai Health via ambulance. Tragically, she was later pronounced deceased.

The vehicle involved is a black 2012 Volkswagen Touareg. KCSO Detectives have started their investigation into this incident, however, foul play is not suspected at this time. Detectives are currently working to contact next of kin. Once the victim’s family has been notified, we will release her identity.
