Update: The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, along with the help of local citizens, and Jake Scuba Adventures, collected a total of 2,640 pounds of garbage from the lake bottom surrounding the Tubbs Hill area. The garbage collected consisted of many tires, old signs, beer cans/bottles, and much more. This operation only lasted a few short hours with 18 total divers participating. The area covered was from the public docks at the northwest area of Tubbs Hill and proceeded approximately 200 yards to the south where the breakwater is located. There were many more pieces of garbage in the water and much more of Tubbs Hill that was not cleared.
Special thanks to Jakes Scuba Adventures and his group of citizen divers, Kootenai County Parks and Waterways, Coeur d’ Alene Streets Department and Engineering Department, and the Coeur d’ Alene Parks Department.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public to “Pack it in, Pack it out” and not dispose of litter into the public’s shared waterways.
