Sheriff LOGO

POST FALLS, IDAHO – At approximately 1:30 P.M. the Post Falls Police Department received numerous reports of a shooting that had occurred at Kokopelli Coffee, 2509 N Hwy 41 in Post Falls.  The suspect was described as a white male in his 30’s driving a gold Ford pickup with Washington plates, and was last seen driving westbound on Poleline Ave.  Two people were reported to be injured with gunshot wounds.

Both victims of the shooting were transported to Kootenai Health for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

Shortly after, a report of an armed carjacking was reported at Hwy 53 and McGuire Road.  The vehicle stolen was a white pickup and was last seen westbound on Hwy 53.  During this investigation, it was learned that the original suspect vehicle was abandoned near a residence on Greensferry Road near Hayden Ave, and the suspect had stolen another vehicle which he drove to the carjacking location.

Deputies from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office found the suspect driving the stolen vehicle and were able to take him into custody without incident.  The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Tisen Sterkel from Newport, WA.

Out of an abundance of caution the Post Falls School District was notified immediately to go into a “safety hold” to ensure the safety of the students and staff.
