Kootenai County, ID: Life doesn’t make time for pandemics. Driver’s licenses are expiring, boats and cars need to be registered and temporary tags still need to be filed. Extensions are now being allowed by the Idaho Transportation Department and Department of Parks and Recreation.

Under the Department of Motor Vehicles they have begun a COVID-19 emergency extensions and expanded online renewal services. For example, if you’re Driver’s License is set to expire between March 1, 2020, and May 31, 2020, your license will now be valid until June 30, 2020. This also applies to Driver’s Training Permits, Instruction Permits, Commercial Learner’s Permits, Identification Cards and Commercial Driver’s Licenses without hazmat endorsements.

The June 30, 2020, extension also applies to Passenger Vehicle Registrations, Commercial Vehicle Registrations, Non-commercial Vehicle Registrations and Farm Vehicle Registrations. Additionally, all Idaho-licensed vehicle dealers can issue 60 day temporary registration permits for any vehicle sold between March 17, 2020 and May 31, 2020.

Temporary expanded online services are available now! You can process your duplicate/renewal online if you are between the ages of 17 and 75, for identification cards, driver’s licenses, and commercial driver’s licenses (Hazmat Still Required). If you wish to change your address, need to renew your commercial learning permit or if you are unable to process a duplicate/renewal online, please call 208-334-8736 to process your credential over the telephone with a DMV Agent.
