[ARCHIVED] KCSO Responds to Crash in Fernan Lake

Coeur d’Alene, ID: On Sunday, March 15, 2020, at about 12:19 P.M., the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, Kootenai County Fire, EMS and Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Dive Rescue Team responded to Fernan Lake Road near the east boat launch for a single vehicle crash. It was reported a vehicle had crashed into the water, and unknown occupants were inside the vehicle.

Once on scene, deputies located two subjects who had been in the vehicle. The driver was identified as Leon T. Clark, 30, Of Coeur D’ Alene Idaho. Clark had been ejected prior to the vehicle entering the water. The passenger, identified as Antron D. Lewis, 21, Of Coeur D’ Alene Idaho, was able to escape the vehicle prior to the vehicle sinking. Both occupants were being attended to by witnesses and good Samaritans. Both were transported to Kootenai Health via ambulance with non-life threatening injuries

The KCSO Dive Rescue Team responded and was able to determine no other occupants were in the vehicle. The crash is currently under investigation, but speed is believed to be a factor.

The crash resulted in the roadway being blocked for a few hours while the scene was processed, however it is open at this time.

The investigation is continuing. No other information is available at this time.
